Don't Believe The Hype.

Well, it seems that pop is not dead. Far from it... the good old 90s pop that we knew and loved is gone but now we have brand spanking new, credible pop that we can enjoy. Pop music is even being bigged up in music magazines and being liked by those evil arsey music snobs that normally turn their nose up at anything that they don't class as proper music.

I will now talk about two of the acts that are apparantely destined for big things and are capturing the hearts of the nation. Sort of.

BELIEVE THE HYPE: The Pipettes

The Pipettes are the faux 60's girl group that it's almost impossible to hate. They're so cutesy that it hurts. But not only that, but they produce some decent tunes an'all... namely Pull Shapes and Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me. Summer flavoured tunes that just make you want bop around your house in retro clothing, quite literally pulling shapes. It's impossible to feel glum whilst listening to the joyful, uptempo beats of The Pipettes. Listening just feels like eating the World's sweetest polka-dot lollipop. Guaranteed fun, Summery listening.

The Pipettes album "We Are The Pipettes" is released tomorrow (Monday 17th July) Click here to order from Amazon.

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE: Lily Allen

Well, y'know. She's alright! (Still!) Smile is number one, and is a great tune. But after hearing a few more of Lily's songs, I'm unsure over whether she deserves the praise she's getting. They're nice enough tunes, but I don't really see what the fuss is about. They're summery alright, in a more laid back way, which doesn't get explored very far, leaving the style of each track a bit samey. I still think she's good, but I don't see why even all those Blunts at the NME are practically wetting themselves with excitement over her.

But! If you agree with Pop Boy or just really like Lily Allen and really couldn't give a fuck about my opinion of her, here to order her album "Alright, Still" which is also released tomorrow.

[OK, I promise not to mention Lily Allen and her amazingness again for a while, promise. But. If you head over to LilyAllenMusic.com and pop your email in the box at the top then you can download for free a totally legitimate and legal 9 minute teaser featuring snippets of all the album tracks mashed together. As you imagine, 'tis fucking brill! Sorry, I'll leave alone now - PB]

Lily Allen is ace! Believe the hype. Not only is her music brilliant, she's the ultimate popstar and she writes her own songs so can't be criticised by NME types.

    INDIE GIRL IS WRONG!

Listen to 'Alfie' and tell me she's not very good. It's impossible.

I didn't say she wasn't good. I just said that she's far from what the tabloids have hyped her up to be. Hense the title on the post.

Oh, who cares? Who the fuck is reading this anyway?

Despite not being able to go to a blog without reading about the Pipettes and Lily Allen, I've only listened to two of the Pipettes' songs, and the only Lily Allen song I've heard so far is "Smile." I think maybe so much blogger hype about the two has almost disinclined me to listen to their music (which makes no sense, I know), but I may have to go listen to "Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me" and "Alfie" now.

I've been reading your blog for a long time and love it...just commenting so you have proof people are reading :)
